Spring Season (January - April)

Our spring season kicks off with practices starting in January. We have three scheduled matches this spring, as we gear up and prepare to attend Bingham in May.

  • For the spring 2024 season, practices will be held at Delta Park from 7:30-9:00 pm. 10737 N Union Court; Strasser Turf Field 8.

Practice is where we sharpen our skills, condition our bodies, and get ready for game day.

  • See our Events calendar for scheduled matches against other teams in our division.

Games are coordinated prior to the start of the season, and are subject to change.

  • Scheduled on April 6th, this event celebrates and honors the hard work and dedication of our MVPs.

  • Hosted in Rome, Italy this year. Bingham is a bi-annual IGR event where hundreds of gay rugby teams compete for the Bingham cup.

  • Practice will continue to occur twice a week. Days, times and location may change for the fall season, and will be communicated on our site and socials.

  • Fall rugby matches are coordinated prior to the season. Our fall line-up will posted on our Events page.

Tournaments

Rucktacular

Yearly

Rucktacular is an annual tournament hosted by one of many IGR teams in the US who all converge over a long-weekend where they compete in several matches against each other. The tournament is half a day of games, but the weekend is full of networking with other teams, and fun!

Maggotfest

Yearly

Maggotfest is hosted once a year by the Missoula Maggots in Montana. This event has existed since 1977. Teams from all over the world, US and Canada compete to test their rugby skills, but to also socialize with the other teams and have fun.

Bingham Cup

Bi-Annual (even years)

The Mark Kendall Bingham Memorial Tournament, or Bingham Cup as it is more widely known, is the biennial world championships of gay and inclusive rugby. The IGR tournament was first held in 2002 in memory of 9/11 gay rugby hero, Mark Bingham, one of the passengers who fought back against hijackers on board United flight 93.

NorAm Cup

Bi-Annual (odd years)

NorAm, or the North America Nationals, is an IGR brand tournament which takes place in North America. Every other year, the tournament is hosted by member rugby clubs in alternate years to Bingham.

Special Events

Rugby 101

The Lumberjacks team organizes Rugby 101 twice a year, at the beginning of each season. Designed to introduce the fundamentals of rugby to individuals who are interested in playing the sport. Whether you have no prior experience with rugby or haven't played in years, we welcome you to join us and have fun! The aim is to provide a supportive and inclusive environment where beginners can learn and develop their understanding of rugby, while also offering those returning to the sport an opportunity to refresh their skills.

Annual General Meeting

The annual general meeting gathers the team to receive updates and information from the President. It serves as an opportunity for members to stay informed about the current state of the team and gain insights into the plans and goals for the upcoming year. Financial matters, team achievements, new initiatives, and strategies for the future are discussed. This meeting fosters transparency, unity, and alignment within the team.

Board Elections

Most board positions have a duration of two years. As these terms approach their end, elections are held to allow active members an opportunity to bring in fresh perspectives and contribute to the progress of the team. The announcement of elections takes place during the General Meeting, which usually coincides with the expiration of most board positions.

Season End Award Party

The season end award party is a celebration dedicated to acknowledging and honoring our MVPs. It is a special occasion where we come together to recognize the exceptional contributions and outstanding performance of the MVP throughout the season. The party serves as a platform to celebrate their hard work, dedication, and talent, applauding their significant achievements on and off the field.

Ruggercub

Ruggercub is the Lumberjacks’ fundraiser event hosted several times each year by our event sponsor, where the team will serve Jell-O shots, raffle team merchandise, and party it up with our supporters and hopefully, new recruits. All this in our jock-straps, of course.

The money raised at each Ruggercub is key to the team’s ability to attend Bingham that happens every other year, and covers our club’s operational costs.

Pride Parade

The annual Portland Pride Festival is the highlight of our year as we enjoy a vibrant and colorful display of love, acceptance and self-expression with our community.

The Lumberjacks participate in the parade by showing support and solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community. Our booth at the festival welcomes new people who may be interested in being a part of our all-inclusive team and rugby.
